Activate love. Transform lives. Change the world.
On December 1, United Methodists will once again come together to support the work of Advance projects and missionaries on UMC #GivingTuesday.
And once again, every gift made online through The Advance on December 1, 2015, will be matched up to $1 million. The theme for the 2015 campaign is “Activate Love. Transform Lives. Change the World.”
UMC #GivingTuesday is part of an international movement that builds on the recent U.S. shopping traditions of Black Friday, Local Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday. It offers an opportunity to start off the holiday season by giving instead of getting through supporting organizations that have been researched and approved by the United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries.
In 2014, more than $2.5 million was donated online to mission and ministries through The Advance on UMC #GivingTuesday. More than 770 projects and missionaries received more than 8,700 gifts. The response was global with donors from 25 countries giving generously.
The Advance is an official program of The United Methodist Church for voluntary, designated, second-mile giving. Through The Advance, United Methodist annual conferences, districts, local churches, and organizations, as well as individuals and families, may choose to support mission programs or mission personnel with their financial gifts. Each Advance project has been vetted and approved by Global Ministries and Advance staff. One hundred percent of all Advance giving goes to the chosen mission project or ministry.
