Youth Group worked at Food at First in Ames June 20 to feed the poor and homeless. We prepared the meal, served it, set up and worked at the Food Market (where people can pick up fresh foods and refrigerated foods gleaned from grocery stores and restaurants) and we ate with those who attended and then cleaned up. It was 5 1/2 hours of service and the youth and adults did a great job. Around 100 people were served supper and most of them went through the Market. It is a church based meal served daily in Ames.
In May, 2019 the new location for the Greene Co Christian Action Resource Center (ARC) opened. It is a food pantry and clothing closet. It also has some household items like dishes and furniture. It is run completely by volunteers and is a non-profit organization so all donations are tax deductible. Contact the ARC to find a time to bring donations of food, clothing, furniture. To get food and clothing please see New Opportunities first. There you will learn about all the resources of our county as well as receive a Voucher for milk and eggs plus a monthly appointment at the ARC. You must be a Greene County resident to receive our services. Thank you to all the volunteers from across the county who make this outreach available. We serve approximately 100 households per month.
